3 Most Common Oven Repair Issues.

Oven Repair Calgary

Have you found yourself with an oven that just is not working properly? We have put together a list of the 3 most common oven issues that we encounter on a regular basis.

Gas Oven Will Not Light or Heat

Have you found yourself with a gas oven that just will not heat or light? It is likely that the igniter in the oven has malfunctioned. When the igniter is functioning optimally, you should hear a few clicking sounds when it is started and once it has ignited you should hear a whooshing sound. If it is malfunctioning, you should only hear it clicking a few times and not hear the whooshing sound. If this is what is happening to your oven, it is important that you turn off the gas line so you can avoid any gas leaks. When dealing with a malfunctioning igniter, it is important to let a certified oven technician repair it.

Electric Oven is Not Heating

First, check to make sure that your digital display has power. If it does not, it is likely that your oven does not have any power coming to it. This can be a result of a blown fuse. First, check the plug in to ensure that it has power coming to it before assuming it is the oven. If there is no power, check to see that the corresponding breaker is flipped to the on position. Check a different device to see if it is getting power from the plug in. If the outlet has power, this confirms that the issue is within the oven itself. Now, make sure that your oven is unplugged and locate the circuit breaker or fuse box on the oven, usually located at the top rear of the back of the oven. You can now turn on the oven breaker or replace a blown fuse.

If your oven does have power, it may be the heating elements that are the problem. Turn the oven on to high and check to see if they are turning red or putting off heat. Damaged elements are easy to diagnose as they will not be glowing red, only glowing half red, or are not putting off any heat. Next turn broil on and see if the element is heating or glowing red. When the elements cool down, you can now unplug the oven and repair the elements as needed.

Electric Oven Not Heating Evenly

If your oven is cooking your food unevenly, it is likely that your elements are half burnt out. Usually the top or the bottom element will be burnt out but occasionally we will see an element that is half burnt out. If it is burnt out partially or completely, this will cook your food unevenly. Follow the steps from above to diagnose and repair the issue.
