5 Troubleshooting Techniques When Your Maytag Dryer Will Not Start.

Fridge Broken

It won't fail. If you have a lot of wet clothes waiting, you will notice that the dryer does not turn on. So why doesn't my Maytag tumble dryer turn on? The door may not be completely closed. Make sure the door latch is closed and the latch is working properly. Use the Maytag Dryer troubleshooting tips to determine the cause of the startup problem.

5 Common Reasons Maytag Dryers Don't Start

From user errors to component errors, there are several possible reasons why the Maytag dryer will not turn on. We will identify the most probable cause and recommend the best solution to get the dryer back on track quickly.

1. The dryer is not turned on

If the Maytag dryer doesn't turn on, it's a good place to start checking the power. Even dryers that use gas heat need electricity to power its motor and other functions. This is a way to assess power issues.

Is the dryer connected to a functioning electrical connection? Make sure the cord is firmly plugged into the outlet. Turn off the dryer, connect something else, and test the outlet. If the device does not turn on, the output may be impaired and should be further tested. Is the circuit breaker or fuse broken? Check the home switch box. Replace the circuit breaker and replace the blown fuse. Note that the electric dryer uses two circuit breakers or fuses to get enough power. Does the dryer work with extension cords? These cables cannot safely conduct the voltage required for the dryer and can overheat and prevent startup. Do not use extension cords to power dryers and large appliances.

2. The dryer door is not locked.

As a safety precaution, most dryers will not turn on when the door is not closed and locked. Even if the door appears to be locked, lightly press it to make sure the latch is locked. When you do so, you will usually hear a small click. If the latch doesn't lock, look for clothes that prevent the door from latching. Without the lock, the latch will not close and if the Maytag dryer does not start, the latch may be damaged. Broken latches need to be replaced by a specialist.

* Tip: Always be careful when opening and closing the dryer door. Slamming it can damage the locking mechanism over time and prevent the dryer from turning on.

3. Dryer performance issues

Certain dryer cycles or features are prohibited from starting immediately when activated. For example, if the wrinkle reduction option is selected, the dryer will not start immediately. Similarly, the control lock setting disables all electronic features and prevents the dryer from turning on. Make sure the control lock light is off and you can choose an automatic or timely drying cycle to start right away. Are you thinking of ways to speed up the drying of your clothes? Refer to the user manual to determine the optimal time or automatic drying cycle for your particular laundry load.

4. Blown Maytag Dryer Fuse

The Maytag dryer's thermal fuse is a safety device that blows when there is a risk of the dryer overheating, interrupting all functions. If the Maytag dryer does not turn on, a one-click multimeter test will show that the fuse is non-conductive, blown, or damaged. The fuse is irreparable anyway and needs to be replaced.

A blown thermal fuse justifies inspection of the dryer vent, even if there is no suspicion of overheating. Ventilation that is clogged with lint, dirt, or the skin of the dryer can limit the flow of air and cause overheating. Check out our list of dry skin tricks with alternatives to dry skin that won't cause vent clogging.

5. Broken Maytag Dryer Start Switch

Pressing the power button activates the ignition switch, indicating that the drive motor will start. If the dryer does not ring when you press the start button, the power switch may be broken. If the multimeter test does not show continuity, replace the Maytag dryer switch.
