When you have condensation in your freezer ice can buildup around the edges and insides of the freezer. This happens by the condensation coming into contact with the coils and freezing. This can cause your freezer to smell, reduce space, and can make it harder to close the top lid.
 
Ice building up can compromise your food and perish it. When this happens to food it is referred to being frostbit. This can happen because of temperature fluctuations, fluctuations in pressure, and food being left in the freezer for too long.
 
7 Tips and Tricks for Preventing Frost Buildup in Your Freezer
To ensure your food stays good as long as possible and you do not begin having ice buildup in your freezer, follow these tips:

​1. Ensure the door is always shut properly:

When the entry way is left open for too long of a period of time, humidity begins to seep into the freezer and when the lid is properly closed, it will create a buildup of ice.

2. Properly Organize Your Freezer:

Keeping your freezer well organized helps to reduce the amount of time you must spend in your freezer every time you go to grab something out. Lowering the time the door is open, reduces the amount of warm air that is able to get in, causing condensation to begin forming.

3. Effectively Stock Your Freezer:

Do not stock your freezer with more than 2-3 pounds of food per square foot of space that you have.

4. Ensure All Items are Cooled Down Before Freezing:

Always ensure all warm foods are left out to cool before you put them in the freezer to be frozen.

5. Ensure the Storage Container is Not Damp:

Ensure that all storing containers are dry and ridded of any dampness before placing them in the freezer.

6. Use Proper Storage Containers:

When storing food in containers, ensure that the amount of food is almost equal to the amount of space in the container. Having extra space for air in the container can lead to premature frost building up on your food.

7. Make Sure the Temperature Stays Constant:

Make sure that you keep your freezer inside your home so that the outside air isn’t constantly changing and making it harder for your freezer to keep a constant temperature. It is recommended to have you freezer set to -19oC.
